This philosophical paper were assigned in SRST 606 class in Fall 2016. The writing is about the reason why it is important to be a consumer of new knowledge. In this paper, I had described several reasons and gave examples to support this point. This project helped me learn the significance of learning new knowledge. Moreover, I learned how efficiently use different sources to obtain new knowledge.
With the development of technology, we can get information easier than before. As we can see, mass media such as newspapers, magazines, and television are filled with information and knowledge. It is no doubt that mass media make our life more convenient and efficient. Conversely, people who desire to obtain new knowledge and information lead to the advance of technology. As a result, to be a consumer of new knowledge is important.
In this competitive society, information change frequently, we have to keep pace with the world. On the one hand, new knowledge would make us well understand what’s happening in the world. Which enable us to communicate with other people. However, if you don’t what’s happening when most of the people are talking them, sometimes, they may treat you as a “dinosaur”. On the other hand, if you want to be professional in your field, you should update your knowledge from time to time. For example, I am a personal trainer, when I prepare for the ACE test, I understand that the material presented in books, or any text, may become outdated due to the evolving nature of the fitness industry, as well as new developments in current and ongoing research. Thus, I have to search the latest knowledge about fitness industry in order to prepare enough for the text.
Moreover, to become the consumer of new knowledge is beneficial to our brain. When we read the new knowledge, we would like to compare them with the old one that we have already known, then decide which one is more reasonable and why they have the difference. Thus, it is a good way to improve our critical thinking skills. In addition, if you find gaps in the new knowledge or research, you can do your own research try to find the answer. In other words, it is possible for you to contribute your knowledge to the world and become professional in your field.
