This philosophical paper were assigned in SRST 606 class in Fall 2016. The writing is about the definition of the word “ professionalism “. In this paper, I had described the meaning of the word professionalism and some ways to show professionalism in certain field. This project helped me understand how important to be professionalism. Moreover, it provides me the information that I can apply the directions to guide my career. In other words, to be professionalism in sports industry is my goal.
If you search the internet, you can find several meaning of the word “Professionalism”. For example, the Merriam-Webster dictionary defines professionalism as “the conduct, aims, or qualities that characterize or mark a profession or a professional person.” However, the most acceptable definition of professionalism is described as “ the standing, practice, or methods of a professional, as distinguished from an amateur.”
From my point of view, professionalism is related to an individual’s conduct at work. Specifically, professional conduct. At first, positive first impression plays an important role in building rapport with others. Also, professionalism can be shown. Generally speaking, people will judge you from following components, such as dress, body language, facial expression, voice quality and communication skills. After that, professional conducts continue to be examine during the process of working from these components. People who are professionalism always show good mood when working with someone even though they are under great pressure. They have confident in their qualification, experience and skills. Furthermore, professional clothes, positive attitude, good communication skills can also be exhibited from them. As a student from sports management, I found that have passion for sport is critical. Most of student in our field have athlete experience. In the past, we are performers from different kinds of sport. However, it doesn’t mean we are professionalism. As a result, In order to transfer from performer to professionalism, we continue our education in sport field. Which means that passion plays an vital role in becoming professionalism. We have experience and skills in sports, but this is not enough. To continue study in sports is the way that we can be professionalism in our field.
